of the GenAI & NLX Research team at Google DeepMind, you'll have
opportunities to advance Large Language Models (LLMs) to enable
breakthrough capabilities, and pioneer next-generation products in
collaboration with major product areas.Specifically, this position
will work on LLM personalization and user intent understanding,
including but not limited to:
- Foundational LLM capabilities on using personal / contextual
information and on user intent understanding.
- Foundation LLM training recipes including supervised
fine-tuning and reinforcement learning, etc.
- LLM reasoning, especially LLM reasoning for personalization and
user intent understanding.
- LLM personalization for some of Google's major AI
applications.Key Responsibilities:There are many ways you can drive
research all the way from ideation, experimentation, to
transformative landings:
- Identify impactful research problems, inspired by existing or
future real-world needs. Research novel solutions through related
work studies, experimentation, and building prototypes and
demos.
- Verify the research ideas and apply them to LLM foundational
models.
- Work with other research and product teams to deliver the
improved LLM capabilities to end users.About youIn order to set you
up for success as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, we look
for the following skills and experience:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or related quantitative field.In
addition, the following would be an advantage:
- Self-directed engineer/research scientist who can drive new
research ideas from conception, experimentation, to deployment in a
rapidly shifting landscape.
- Strong academic background in machine learning, information
retrieval, and natural language processing, including prior
publication track record in top research conferences (NeurIPS,
ICLR, ICML, ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, WSDM, SIGIR, WebConf, RecSys,
etc.).
- Outstanding technical leadership and communication skills to
lead new research areas and multi-team cross-PA collaborations
across geographical boundaries.
- Prior experience with production-scale machine learning
projects and systems: JAX, TensorFlow, or similar machine learning

full-time position is between $136,000 - $300,000 + bonus + equity
