Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) accelerates development and fielding of innovative commercial technology into the hands of the DoD, and requires personnel with ability and experience in using novel acquisition approaches to acquire technologies and transitioning projects to PEOs, program offices, and end users across all military services. DIU projects are rapid prototyping efforts with a total internal budget of $800+ million and leveraging over $500+ million from Department of Defense partners. DIU partners with the Department of Navy to accelerate the development and integration of cutting edge capabilities and technologies through the commercial solutions opening (CSO) processes to adapt the "best of" maturing commercial technology to Fleet problem sets.Billet Description Detail:This leader will enable DIU's integration across the Fleets. They will focus on identifying, scoping, curating, and translating Fleet problems into CSO output, and apply a recent, relevant tactical URL lens to this work. They will be tightly integrated with commercial technology markets, and support the execution of CSOs with DIU's technology portfolios.This leader would also serve as a pathfinder throughout the lifecycle of a DIU CSO, helping align requirements, resourcing, sustainment, and capability acquisition with OPNAV and ASN RDA, and test and evaluation and fielding with Fleets/end users and PEOs.At the end of this tour these officers would become "tri-fluent", complimenting their tactical expertise with a thorough understanding of the technology innovation ecosystem, and its interface with traditional PPBE and defense acquisition.This position is targeted for a post Department Head O4, on track for future O5 milestone.
