Together, we're working at the pace of change on diagnostic tools that address the world's biggest health challenges, driven by knowing that behind every test there is a patient waiting.The R&D Lab Manager is responsible for leading the team responsible for ensuring the smooth operations of the Assay R&D laboratories by responding to associate needs and collaborating cross functionally with EHS&S, Calibration, Facilities, and other teams. This position is part of the Research & Development department and will report to the Director for R&D Operations and Enablement and will be onsite in Sunnyvale, CA.At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Drive for continuous improvement; develop best strategies to coordinate and minimize manual work through processes and procedures by getting consensus.
• Assist associates with recommending laboratory equipment/systems and coordinate installation of any equipment, assuring that all equipment requirements, including lab utilities and any safety requirements are met.
• Inspect labs for compliance with regulations and guidelines pertaining to the use, handling, and disposal of potential biohazards.
• Be the point of contact for lab audits by regulatory agencies.
• Enforce lab safety and compliance policiesThe essential requirements of the job include:
  • BS degree with 12+ years of experience, 7+ years of lab management experience at a molecular diagnostics company, public health laboratory or similar institution OR
  • MS degree with 8+ years, with 5+ years of lab management experience at a molecular diagnostics company, public health laboratory or similar institution.
  • Understanding in Molecular Biology Techniques and preferably experience with real time PCR
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in people management (direct reports)It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
    • Building trust and collaborative relationships and the ability to influence change through effective communication.
    • Cross functional collaboration with EHS, calibration, facilities, janitorial and IT to resolve issues in the labs.
    • Performing 1st level triage on lab technical issues associated with computers, GeneXpert instruments or general lab equipment.
    • Managing through ambiguity by creating structure that enables the ability to escalate, pinpoint a specific ask, need for support or guidance.Cepheid, a Danaher operating company, offers a broad array of comprehensive, competitive benefit programs that add value to our lives. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
